VI World Championship of Folklore “World Folk” 2016 is in full swing. Tens of groups and individual performers were awarded by the Jury of the Championship. Some of the performers from Bulgaria and abroad finished their participation and others joined the contest.
The best performers on the stages of Obzor and Sv. Vlas during the past two contest evenings are Folklore trio “Avliga” from Dupnitsa and Group “Mladi talanti” from Glogovo village, Lovech. They impressed the Jury and the audience and quite deservedly they had received gold medals.
The representatives of Rhodopean ethnographic region presented themselves with spectacular performances. Pirinka Kirkova sang the Rhodopean emblematic song “Rufinka bolna legnala”; the bagpipe accompanying the songs and authentic dances presented by Folklore ensemble “Izvorche” from Krumovgrad made the audience to quiet down and to feel the greatness and mystique of the Rhodope Mountains.
The typical for the Shoppian folklore region hot temper, temperament and wit were properly introduced with songs, dances and customs by the Workshop of folklore, local studies and ethnography “Ihtimanche” and Dance ensemble “Srednogorski polah” from Ihtiman. Dancers from Folklore dance group “Nestini” at the University of Forestry in Sofia flooded the scene with energy. Their excellent performance at “World Folk” 2016 proved that they quite deservedly won the first World Cup of Folklore in May this year in Veliko Tarnovo.
Performers of old urban and popular songs presented themselves worthily. Vili Shukova from Slivnitsa touched the spectaculars’ soul with Bulgarian version of the song “Zora e” and the indefatigable singer Violeta Balkanska from Lovech deserved the applauses of audience with her performance of Russian songs and attractive stage presence.
Shouting "Molodtsay" and a storm of applause received the guests from Russia: cheerful dancers from the Ensemble for Folklore Art "Sinyaya ptitsa"; romantic representation of ethno-rock singer Mila Rozhkova. The duo Dmitriy Kalinin and Tatyana Rechnaya - performers of Zen Buddhist spiritual music of Japan finished their participation the Gold Medal and many other awards.
The competition was joined by guests from Iran - Dance Group "Aylan" pioneer in folklore and ritual dances of Azeris and Ensemble "Biser" from Velika Kladusa (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
Tonight on Amphitheatre stage in Obzor will be held the final competition concert of the Championship. After the concert all nominated for the Grand Prix will be announced. The winner of the Grand Prix Golden "Orpheus", the title of Absolute World Champion of folklore and the check for € 1000 will be announced at a gala concert on August 27 (Saturday) on "Arena Theatre" stage in Sveti Vlas.
The concerts are live broadcasted on Eurofolk TV which is the general media partner of the Championship.
